Celebrating all things Hispanic
Celebrating all things Hispanic
I grew up in the Dominican Republic, on a healthy diet of romance novels, comic strips, Gabriel Garcia Marquez's books, and the strict watch of my mother.
As an author, I draw inspiration from the children I engage with, creating pieces that highlight our vibrant culture, honor our community, and amplify marginalized narratives.
In my role as a librarian and in collection development, I ensure that our library resources cater to the diverse needs of the Hispanic community we support. This involves curating literature that not only celebrates our culture but also promotes inclusive representation in our library collections
My qualifications include a degree in bilingual education, a Master's in Library Science, and a doctorate in leadership in higher education.
My personal background and experiences heavily influence my feminist viewpoint and how it aligns with other social justice movements. As a woman from a developing nation with a rich cultural heritage, along with a blend of educational and professional experiences in the U.S., I embody a unique fusion of cultural, ethnic, and academic backgrounds. These elements shape my nuanced and inclusive approach to feminism, acknowledging the complexities of intersectionality.
In Queens, NY, I share my home (and heart) with my spoiled untamed Shih Tzu, Toby, and my much-attached "ñiña" Chihuahua, Maya. I am an acrylic painting enthusiast and certified art therapist. During my leisure time, I enjoy brainstorming book ideas, making crochet shawls and amigurumi, and occasionally, shedding tears over mistreated dogs on my social media feed.
